Computers

The National Exams were put on computers. It was a disaster. The many errors caused severe distress. Some students committed suicide. Afterwards, when the parents were told that the deceased students had really made high passing grades, much suffering resulted. The growing tendency to rely on computers and calculators to provide answers to problems is bringing about a rapid deterioration of intellect. In the past, people had to use their brains to think long and hard on problems. Now, the mental work is handed over to a computer and the mental faculties deteriorate through disuse........

There is the intention to use them in ways that are beneficial and constructive. The immediate results appear to be very good. But in the long run the use of computers and calculators will result in a severe deterioration of human intellectual power. (MBI, p. 194)

As regards, computers good and bad depend on the programmer. If the program is not proper, the computer will also give you bad results. Just like the grinding mill, if you put in wheat you get wheat flour. If you put in rice, you get rice flour and if you put in dal, you get dal flour. In the program, you have all good and bad things. Good and bad lie in the programmer.

If a student wants to get married the computer will not be able to help him without prior programming. Somebody should physically inquire about the availability of eligible girls and feed that data into the computer so that anybody who wants the details regarding eligible brides can do so by going through the concerned files in the Computer. Computer can give all the required information i.e.., name, place, etc., regarding the girl. Previously computers were seen with amazement and wonder but now the world is full of computers. Every one is learning computer. Because of this, general knowledge, commonsense, and general energy are being put to disuse. We should develop our innate intelligence. Where is your computer? It’s the brain. Your computer is your brain. That which is not in the brain, cannot be understood by your computer. (M, p. 186)
