(Bhagavad Gita, Chapter 11:54)
In the world men drift along without making proper enquiry about the meaning and purpose oflife. That is why the Gita indicated how man should undertake this enquiry. It pointed out threestages: ‘Jnatum, Drashtum and Praveshtum.’Jnatum refers to the first stage of ascertainingthe objective. Without this knowledge, there is no meaning in undertaking anything. One has tofind out what is to be sought, from where and from whom and how it is to be got. Even when aperson wants to enjoy a mango, all these enquiries have to be made before the mango can be gotand eaten. After getting the knowledge of where mangoes are available--which is the stage ofJnatum--one sees the fruit in the market. This is Drashtum (seeing). After buying the fruit, youstart eating it--this is the stage of Praveshtum. It is only when all the three stages are gonethrough that one realises one s objective and achieves fulfilment. Students should realise thatwhatever is their objective, they should approach knowledgeable persons and seek to know fromthem all about their objective. You should not arrogate to yourself that you are all-knowing. Infact, in the world today even what the greatest scientist knows is only a miniscule part of thetotality of knowledge.(SSS Vol.24, p. 65)
