Rama addressed the citizens: ‘Those who yearn to be happy here and hereafter! Listen to my words. Have them as your guide and your goals. Follow this path. Of all paths that lead to God and Self-realisation, the path of Devotion (Bhakti) is the easiest, it is a path full of delight for the mind. The path of discrimination and elimination of illusion (Jnana) is fraught with difficulties and packed with obstacles.
It is well-nigh impossible to extinguish the mind. And, even those who travel along the hard path of Jnana can become dear to Me, only if they have devotion and love in their hearts. There is nothing equal to Bhakti. Bhakti is not bound, it is free. It endows man with all joys and delights. And, it must be emphasised that you can progress in Bhakti only when you seek and stay in Satsanga good company’. Continuing his discourse to the assembly Rama said ‘Listen, O People of My Kingdom. I wish to tell you one very important Truth, often not clearly grasped by you. Do not attribute any distinction between Shiva and Keshava. Believe that God is one. The Name and the Form are distinct, but, the Divyatma (the Universal Absolute Entity) is the same. That Divyatma is in everyone in equal potency’. (RKRV Part II, p. 295)
‘Be unmoved either by adulation or denigration. Follow My lead: I am unaffected by either; I march on, alone, undeterred and of My own accord.’ (Uniq, p. 69)
‘The way in which the Avatar has to be used for one’s liberation and uplift is: watch His every step, observe His actions and activities, follow the guiding principle of which His life is an elaboration. Mark His Love, His Compassion, His Wisdom; try to bring them into your own life.’ (Uniq, p. 69)
‘Follow the Path of Knowledge with a direction and steadfastness of Satyam. Follow the path of Devotion with the exhilaration of Joy of Shivam. Follow the Path of Action with the harmony of charm of Sundaram. (LS, p. 166)
Don’t rely on the body. It is a water bubble. Don’t rely on the mind, which is like a mad monkey. Follow the conscience. When you follow the conscience with full self-confidence, you can accomplish anything. (SSS Vol.26, p. 320)
Do not follow the body. Follow the mind and the Atma. The one who follows the Atma is the real spiritual seeker. (SSS Vol.26, p. 325)
Krishna had always eluded the gopikas after playing his mischief. But once, out of compassion for them, he wanted to provide a clue by which they could trace him. One day they all lay in wait round their houses to catch Krishna. Krishna went into a house stealthily, broke a pot of milk and quietly hid himself. The gopikas found that he had broken the pot and tried to trace him. The milk white steps, which he had left, revealed to them his hideout. Then, Krishna revealed to them the spiritual truth that if they cling to the feet of the Lord they realise Him. ‘Follow my footsteps and you shall find me,’ Krishna told the gopikas.
