Gifts

Every passing minute is a precious gift from God, which you have to use for the best and most lasting benefit. (SSS Vol.7, p. 95)

The idea of ‘gift’ gives a higher position apparently to the giver and places the recipient lower. This is wrong. The givers must feel that the recipients are part of themselves, and that they are just discharging their debt of dharma distribution. (BSS Part I, p. 37)

Great souls never lose their balance. By preserving our calm, we can always turn stumbling blocks into stepping stones. Never, never should you let the feeling of helplessness cross your mind. When one realises his own self to be the all, he cannot desire; he simply enjoys all as ‘he himself’. This is the precious gift ‘Sanathana Sarathi’ offers. This is the treasure that all aspirants have to welcome and cherish. (SS60, p. Message of Bhagavan)

‘Motherhood is the most precious gift of God. Mothers are the makers of a nation’s fortune or misfortune’. (Div, p. 52)

Don’t blame God if difficulties confront you. Regard even those difficulties as gifts from God intended for your good. Life is a succession of good and bad. If you take in your stride these ups and downs of life with firm faith in God, the Divine will take good care of you. Always remember the Lord’s name. (SSS Vol.23, p. 183)

In human life, there are two attitudes to the objects with which one has to deal. There are things for which one is only a temporary guardian by virtue of one’s position in relation to them. There are things which belong to one which one take along with him and use as he pleases. The latter type of relationship is called Marakam. The former type is called Tarakam. Men should cultivate the attitude of Tarakam, namely, that nothing belongs to them and that everything belongs to God.

All are gifts of God. You must treat all possessions in that spirit. You must take good care of them as long as you have the responsibility for their proper use and maintenance. That is your duty.

As long as you live in this world, you have the rsponsibility to take care of your wife, children and possessions. But you must regard this as an obligation imposed by God. You must not get attached to them as your possessions. Most people of the world, however, are deeply attached to kinsfolk and properties. How long are these possessions? You can never know when you may have to leave all of them behind. Hence, the proper attitude for men is to recogmise one’s duty towards others and consider everything as a gift of God.
