Glory

We should not regard the Bhagavad Gita as merely a dialogue between Krishna and Arjuna. It is an endless dialogue between the human and the Divine in the hearts of all human beings. Just as Arjuna listened to Krishna’s voice with an unwavering mind, every human being must listen to the words and declarations springing from the depths of his heart in a spirit of sincerity. If this spirit of attention is improved, it is possible for man to reach Godhead. A Danava (demon) can undoubtedly become a Manava or man and man can become God through such discipline. This is the unexcelled glory of the Gita. (SSB 1979, p. 46)

The glory of Gopala having had concrete evidence of His Divinity, the Gopis relapsed into Maya (Delusion) and resumed their conversation about Gopala being the son of Nanda and Yashoda and felt He was their cowherd friend. They were caught up in the coils of illusion. Even Yashoda who has seen with her own eyes on many occasions, the Divinity of Krishna, slided back into the belief that He was her son. Her imagination and attachment were the causes of this delusion.

When the time clicks fast towards the end, the body too has to get ready to drop; isn’t it? The body drops when the vital sirs stop flowing in it; but the mind will not leave off. For this reason, newer and newer bodies have to be assumed until the mind is rendered empty, devoid of content, vacant of wants. When the mind is ever merged in Madhava (God) the body will be all Divinity; its humanness cannot be identified. The mind which welcomes the delusion or which entertains the idea of the Reality is, therefore, the instrument, for both bondage and liberation. ‘mana eva manusyanam karaṇaṁ bandha-moksayoh, bandhaya visayasango muktyai nirviṣayaṁ manah’. (Bhag Vahini, pp. 218-219)

Neither the parents, nor the teachers nor the elders in Society, rulers as well are competent to instruct the Children about ‘The Glory of Bharat’. They themselves have no knowledge of their culture and have no faith in the values. They do not practise spiritual disciplines. How can they develop in children, devotion to God, and love for our culture and country? Hence I have taken up the task of educating the children about ‘The Glory of Bharat’. (Glory OB, p. Inside cover)

The glory of race rests on Morality. Decline in Morality brings degradation of the race as well. That race is indeed a noble race, which seeks sustenance for Morality. Listen to this noble truth, O brave sons of Bharat, O brave students of Bharat! (SSB 1996, p. 8)
