The waking state experience only the inert (jada). What is experienced in the dream state is maya. And in the ‘Karana’ state, there is only a reflection. All three are of little account. There is one thing which transcends all these – that is the ‘Mahakarana’, that is the Omni-self (Para tattva ). The Atma that is in Para tattva and which is in the jada (the inert matter) is one and the same. Vairagya consists in recognising this oneness. It is not giving up of things that constitutes Vairagya. (SS Aug 88 , p. 206)
