Vidura said, ‘Mother Kunti Devi, who can overcome the decrees of fate? What must happen, happens. The good and evil that men do have to result in good and evil. How can man be called free, when he is bound by this law of cause and effect? He is a puppet in the hands of this law; it pulls the strings and he makes the movements. Our likes and dislikes are of no consequence. Everything is His Will, His Grace’. (Bhag Vahini, p. 29)

Gita teaches that every single happening is His handiwork and that everyone is a puppet in His hands. (SSS Vol.8, p. 15)

We might have earned a lot, acquired many things. We might have enjoyed many things. Where are they now? What has happened to them? Why did we part with them? What benefit did we derive from them? When we inquire into these matters, we will realize that the things we enjoyed, the individuals with whom we associated, and the experiences we had are all like puppets on a screen.
