Remove the roots of the weeds of egoism from the field of your heart; that is enough. But this is very difficult; the lightest shower will induce the weeds to sprout again. Similarly, when the circumstances turn favourable, egoism throws up its shoots and grows as thick as in the past. You will have to remove the roots too; this can be done by insisting, ‘Not I, but the Lord’. (SSS Vol.2, p. 65)

First remove and clear off the unwanted scrub and thorny bushes called evil qualities from the fields of your hearts. Then till the fields of your hearts with the ploughs of good actions. Irrigate them with the water of Prema (Love). Sow the seeds of Divine Names. Remove the weeds of undesirable qualities like lust and anger etc. use the pesticides of Viveka (discrimination), Vairagya (detachment) and Saranagati (surrender) to destroy the pests and diseases called Ahamkara (ego-sense) and Mamakara (attachment or possessiveness).

Apply the manures (fertilizers) called Satya (truth) and Dharma (Righteousness). Put up the fencing of discipline and Sadhana to safeguard the crop from trespass and damage. Derive joy when the crop puts forth the flowers of Shanti (Peace). Finally experience the ananda (Bliss) of the harvest of the food grain and its consumption (Sakshatkara). ( (Uniq, p. 134))
