Sat-cit-ananda

Existence-knowledge-bliss, or being-awareness-bliss. (Glossary for the Vahinis)

In the trinity aspect of God, the name Ida, Saraswati, Bharati are the three aspects that have been taken from the three Vedas, Rig, Yajur and Sama. In analogy with these it has been established that the divine has three aspects ‘Sat’, ‘Cit’, ‘ananda’, and He is called Sat-cit-ananda Swarupa. (SSB 1974, p. 153)

Sat-cit-ananda that is the embodiment of Brahman. Sat is the essence of Shantam, Cit is the essence of Jnanam; these and ananda together form the Swarupa of Brahman, or the embodiment of Brahman. (JV, p. 22)

‘Reality is one - Ekam Sat’. And that is ‘Atma’. Scholars describe God as the embodiment of Sat, Cit and Anandam – Existence, Awareness, Bliss. It is not correct. He is Sat itself, He is cit itself, He is ananda itself. These three are not different or separate from God. (ICS, p. 119)
