The beauty in sports lies in the fact that people forget their differences – of nationality, religion, education, colour, temperament and taste – while participating. The chief quality or virtue is to forget individual differences. Then we must develop the spirit of equality; to-day our games, deeds and words are a matter of business. Games and sports are meant for the development of the spirit, for the health of the body and for joy and happiness. We should work for those goals and unity. Do not be selfish. Do your duty well; play your part. God will take care of the victory or loss. It is said. ‘Human effort is our duty; success of failure lies in the will of God.’ You desire to excel, to stand first and succeed in games and sports. For that you must put in much effort. You work with determination and dedication, devotion and joy. The same effort must be extended to all walks of life. It is narrow-mindedness to desire success and championship only in games and sports. You must have broad feelings, saying, ‘the success, which I have achieved in games and sports, I must achieve also in other fields of life. ‘Such should be your resolve as to say, ‘Just as I ranked above my fellow students, I must rank first in practising ideals in my life. I must also win the grace of God as an award. The word Bahumati, (awards) is a strange one. When the word is split, Bahu Mati, it means many minds. With one mind itself, you face enough problems. You can well imagine your fate if you have many minds; so do not be multi-minded. Having a one-pointed mind, you should reach eternity. (NNSG Vol.2, p. 149)
