People undergo a lot of difficulties and struggles day and night for the sake of money. They even stealthily resort to unfair means to earn money. Their ego and mental aberrations add to their sufferings. So long as the world is in such a bad condition, man cannot escape from sufferings. He can attain peace and prosperity only when he is true to his word and his mind is full of sweetness. One cannot have the vision of God with a disturbed or wavering mind. (SSS Vol. 41, p. 29)
You suffer now because all your attachment is towards Nature (the material world), and all your denial is of God. This has to be reversed. You must cultivate non-attachment towards Nature and attachment towards God. (SS60, p. 24)
Where there is a sense of ‘myness’ and possessiveness, there will be the problem of suffering. If you do not have that feeling of possessiveness you will not be bound by anything, and will not suffer. Therefore, for all these bondages, sufferings and sorrows, it is just the ‘I-ness’ or ‘myness’ that is responsible. (DBG, p. 75)
‘To take upon myself the sufferings of those who have surrendered to Me is My Duty. I have no suffering and you have no reason to suffer too, when I do this Duty of Mine. The entire give-and-take is the play of life.’ (LS, p. 106)
The suffering caused by Dehabhimana (body attachment) will disappear once you develop Daivabhimana (divine consciousness).
The first step in the spiritual path is to overcome body attachment. You are subjected to all kinds of suffering as your body attachment increases. As body attttachment increases, atmic consciousness decreases. (BU1:6, p. 5)
Do not care for the suffering of the body. Suffering is quite natural to the human body. Face all suffering with courage and faith in the Self. A true spiritual aspirant is one who undergoes all suffering with a smile. (BU1:6, p. 6)
Those who suffer have My Grace. Only through suffering will they be persuaded to turn inward and initiate self enquiry. Without turning inward, they can never escape misery. (BU1:6, p. 10)
Man is suffering today because he is engrossed in the external world with no sadhana or steady practice to correct his vision. Develop sincere longing, cleanse the mind, purify the thoughts and put the precepts into practice. (BU1:6, p. 12)
The Lord responds not merely to the sweet voiced Kokil (cuckoo) and its song, He gives ear to the warbles of other birds too. He gives ear to the wailings of every being. In fact, suffering entitles you more to the Grace of the Lord.
When sufferings come in waves, one behind the other, be glad that the shore is near. Bear them bravely, do not, like cowards, throw the blame on some outside power or develop dislike for the Lord. (BU1:6, p. 20)
Man is suffering because he cannot rid himself of the greed for sense objects and sensual pleasures (Vishaya Vasanas). He knows that sooner or later he has to give up whatever he earns and collects, but his attachment only builds as the years go by. (BU1:6, p. 21)
Kama and Krodha are responsible for all the suffering of man. People think they are suffering because of the influence of the nine Grahas (planets). In fact, these Grahas do not cause sufferings to anyone; they only discharge their duties. However, there are two Grahas which are responsible for all your sufferings. They are Kama and Krodha which are very powerful and cause immense suffering to man. What should you do to control these? You should develop friendship with God. God alone is your true and permanent friend. (SS Aug 12 p. 255)
