As authoritative texts of the basic beliefs of Bharatiya Culture in the spiritual field, the Upanishads, the Brahma sutra and the Bhagavad Gita, the Prasthanatrayi or the Three Sources, have to be reckoned. (BPV, p.85)

As adjuncts to the Vedas, many scriptural texts emerged. The Veda (knowledge) of Archery, the Veda of Ayu or Maintenance, prolongation and preservation of life (medicine), the Veda of Planets and Stars (Jyotir Veda) - many such texts were composed and promulgated. (SSVahini, p. 183)
