Human relations in an organisation may be strained because of some troublemakers. Such intractable/recalcitrant workers should be transferred to other departments, wherein their presence may not jeopardise the organisation. In this context the role of employee in organisations should also be properly understood. Blind participation in Trade Union activities is undesirable. There should be harmonious relations between managers and workers. This can be properly explained by means of an analogy from the human body.
Manager should be like heart and workers like various limbs of a human body. The characters in Mahabharata personified various interrelations among personnel of an organisation: Dharmaja as Head, Bhima as Stomach, Arjuna as Heart, Nakula and Sahadeva as Hands and Legs respectively. A manager should be able to identify the strengths of all his subordinates and underplay their weaknesses. In Indian medicine it is said that there is nothing like a waste plant if we view the world from a holistic perspective. Thus one with practical knowledge would be truly regarded as a real boss. A manager should take a vicarious approach and stand in the shoes of other people to become a socially responsive one, to learn the proclivities of various people. (M, pp. 36-37)
