There are many rich people in this world. There are noble souls. They have hermitages (ashrams) also. They maintain temples. These temples and the Ashrams have money. Where do they get the money from? It is only out of the efforts of the devotees that they get the money. The money given by the devotees has to be spent for the devotees. Let it be any organisation; all the money collected is from the poor people. It is not their own. How do you expect the rich to grow without the support of the poor people? They could grow rich because of the efforts and wealth of the poor. Having received from the poor, you spend for them. Therefore, people in Ashrams, temples will have to spend on medicines and education in their respective areas. That is true devotion.
We make so many ornaments for God. God has only one ornament. There is no better ornament other than love. We better serve humanity instead of wasting money in making ornaments for God. This is not true devotion.
What we are supposed to offer God is only love. Money is given by people for good purposes.
We should not depend upon the Government for every thing. People should co-operate to the extent possible and provide all types of conveniences for themselves. Then only there will be a feeling of one family. All are brothers and sisters. One should co-operate with this feeling. How can you expect the Government to provide all types of conveniences? Their money is also from the people. So public property should be spent for the benefit of the public.
This principle of sacrifice is taught by the Vedas. ‘Na karmana na prajaya dhanena, tyagenaike amrutattva manasuhu.’ Not by work, not by progeny, not by wealth, by sacrifice alone is immortality obtained. We should sacrifice. Sacrifice is true Yoga. Action without sacrifice is Roga, disease. Let it be rich people or people attached to temples, work for the welfare of the people around. (DTB Vol. p.6-7)
