Vishvam means that which has emerged from the Divine with many limbs. Vish + Vam means that which is pervaded exceptionally. Another meaning for Vishvam is Vayu (air). Air is all-pervading. ‘Vishnuh Vishvasvaruupah’ (The Cosmos is the embodiment of Vishnu). Vishnu also means all pervasive. (SSS Vol.26, p.1)
