Yudhishthira was an Emperor who ruled Hastinapura. He was an embodiment of righteousness. He was good at heart, generous and an expert in royal polity. He was soft-spoken and a person of good character and forbearance. He was pure in heart and practised Satya (Truth) and Dharma (Righteousnes) in his daily life throughout. He treated these two qualities as his weapons. On occasions when his brothers, Bhima and Arjuna or wife Draupadi were fuming unable to control anger, he used to teach them peace and patience and counsel them. He used to go to any extent to keep up his word. He never used to blame God or forget God even when he was undergoing difficulties or subjected to insult. He always believed that God is the doer of all Karmas ( activities) and all Karmas are to be performed in a spirit of dedication to God. He used to worship and serve Lord Krishna. He believed that the Pandavas are the body of Krishna and Krishna was the In-dweller. He loved Krishna very much and never used to transgress His command. He never used to hate anyone, even people who harmed him. He always used to to treat sorrows and difficulties and pleasures and pain as the result of one’s own actions and welcome them, wholeheartedly. He was compassionate, righteousand god-loving. In view of his sterling qualities, he earned the name of ‘Ajatashatru’ (one who has no enemies). One special quality in himwas he never used to ditch those who reposed full faith in him. At the time of great march of Pandavas to the heaven, he refused to enter it when then the dog that accompanied him all through was denied entry. He was a man of great sacrifice and a yogi.
