Bali peetam is a sacrificial altar in front of the entrance to a temple. It signifies that before approaching god, one should sacrifice the three evils of ahamkaram (Egoism or ‘I’ sense), mamakaram (possessiveness, attachment or the feeling of ‘mine) and vasanas (bad tendencies). (NNSG Vol.7, p. 6)
