Arrogance

What is the meaning of arrogance? It means not to bother about anything or anyone, not giving due respect to the elders, not having any humility and behaving in an insolent way. Self-confidence, on the other hand, is a highly pure, sacred and peaceful quality. It takes you closer to divinity. Arrogance is the complete opposite of this attribute. There is a world of difference between arrogance and humility. Humility is a quality that is very important for man. Do not give any scope for arrogance to develop in you. It is our enemy. Humility is our friend. Always rely upon your friend. With arrogance and pride, you cannot hope to acquire any good name or fame. You cannot be victorious in any task. But with self-confidence, you can attain self-realisation. This can be done as follows. With self-confidence, you can attain self-realisation. This can be done as follows. With self-confidence, you gain self-satisfaction. This in turn leads you to self-realisation. Self-confidence is hence the right and royal road. But arrogance is a dirty road, strewn with thorns. Even vehicles will find it very difficult to travel over it. Nobody will care to approach arrogance. Since an arrogant person will respect none, he will get no respect in turn. Hence, arrogance is undesirable for not only students, but for everybody. With arrogance, you become proud, egoistic and vain. There are two examples for this. Take a world map. The world map is very big. In this, India is shown as a very small country. Locate Anantapur district, Prasanthi Nilayam is shown much smaller – the size of one thousandth part of an ant’s head. In such a small Prasanthi Nilayam, how big are you? In this way, if you compare, you realise that in this vast universe, you are absolutely an insignificant entity. You will then understand the folly of being arrogant and will, on your own, give it up in disgust. Another way to get rid of your arrogance is to realise that since God is omnipresent, you are yourself God. In the process, you believe that ‘I’ and ‘You’ are one. Then there is no scope for arrogance because a broad-minded attitude develops there. Arrogance is sheer ignorance. It is not an illusion, but is ignorance. Detect this difference and tread carefully.
