Any fine art must aim at raising men into right conduct and infusing in them love and humility renunciation, devotion and spiritual wisdom. The arts must never be dragged to the streets and to appease the appetites of lust and anger.

Today what we see in the artistic field is not a desire to do something sensible but anything sensational and sensual, not something noble but anything novel. All the literature and cinema of today is crime and sex which tingle the nerves and tangle the mind in lust and hatred.

Poetry as well as other arts are meant only to assuage the upheavals of the mind, and turn it to quiet and to equanimity. But today these very vehicles are diabolically directed to whip up mind into vicious afflictions. What a tragedy! (B.B=S.S. - p. 66 & 67)
