Immortality

Immortality is the meaning of liberation. Removal of immorality is the only way to immortality. (CWBSSB, p. 157)

There is birth and death for the body but there is no birth and death for atma. To be able to understand this permanency of the atma is the real meaning of attaining immortality. Not only by doing good deed by keeping good company and by having good thoughts in the material world and in all matters relating to our daily life but also be imbibing this Shakti obtained from reciting the sacred mantras can we secure this aspect of immortality. (SSB 1974, p.111)

The Vedas declare; ‘Na karmana na prajaya dhanena, tyagenaike amrutattva manasuhu’ not by acts, nor by riches, nor by progeny but only by renunciation alone can immortality be gained.’ (SSS Vol.8, p. 78)

Man becomes immortal neither by deeds, nor by procreation nor by wealth. What makes him eternal is the spirit of sacrifice. We should therefore try to make our lives meaningful by sacrificing our personal comforts for the sake of society and our fellow beings. (SSS Vol.9, p. 197)

Brahma means, expanse, limitless presence; you have to pass beyond the limit to the limitless. Limit is death; beyond it, unaffected by it, is Immortality. (SSS Vol.8, p. 64)

What is the way to immortality? It is the removal of immorality; that is the only way to immortality. Only when you remove the weaknesses which are inherent in you, like jealousy, hatred, anger, pride and such other evils, will you be able to understand divinity. (DBG, p. 165)

Upanishads address you as ‘Children Of Immortality.’ Try to deserve that honour, to achieve that height. Learn to use all your skills, all your intelligence, all your time for attaining that victory. You are Gods in human form; .for only Gods can be immortal. You are embodiments of the divine Atma. Do not degrade your life in low pursuits. Spend it in sacred thought, loving service, selfless acts and sweet words of solace. (SSB 1976, p. 152)

This body will be 70, on 23rd. Swami never did any harm to anybody anywhere. Swami will never think of putting anyone to suffering. Though Swami is 70, He looks like a boy. He has so much of energy. From where has Swami got it? There are three reasons for it? There are three Ps here. The first P is Purity, the second Patience and the third Perseverance. If you develop these three, you will also be immortal. But today we do not see such purity. Believe it or not, from head to toe Swami has no trace of selfishness. All the time He thinks of helping somebody somewhere or other and never for Himself. You will be divine if you develop such a feeling. You proceed along the proper path.

Swami never asked anybody stretching His hand. But He asks for one. He wants pure love. It is not your property or your grandfather’s. Love is God. Live in Love. That is the way to God. It is not love between parents and children. It is attachment. Where was that love before the child was born. We say there is love between husband and wife. Where was this love before marriage? These things have come in between. They are passing clouds. They are sort of attachment. Love exists prior to your birth and during your life time. That very love is God. What all we speak today, does not reflect love. God is Love. There cannot be a greater ideal than this. (DTB Vol.1, p. 11)
